Letter #23

Hey everybody!

Crazy crazy CRAZY how fast this week went, such a blur! One of the best things this week was.....it rained and rained and wasn't hot and there were no gnats!!!!!!!  Seriously makes such a difference to not be sweating to death and surrounded by tiny "moshki" hahaha.  Makes it waaay easier to talk to people on the street too! We met this totally awesome lady the other day named Irina, who said she would love to meet with us, but we just have to wait until she performs in this Middle Eastern dance show thing, and then we can call.  Haha it just makes me laugh--you would NEVER guess this woman's hobby was Middle Eastern dancing, I guess it just goes to show you really truly can't judge a book by its cover!
I barely have time today so this might be a short one! One super cool thing we did last Tuesday (I think? The days are all mushed together in my brain!) is helped a lady named Tatyana build her house. Seriously. She is just this 50-ish year old woman, who decided she wants to build a house, so she lives in this little hut thing while she waits for the house to be built and she just kind of builds all day long.  And the house is not some simple little cottage or something, it is a two-story, HOUSE house.  So the elders helped her dig her well, and she had us paint the fence.  I think I breathed in a LOT of fumes, just so you all know.  If its lead based paint was I supposed to wear a mask thing or something, or do you think I'll be fine?  Also, Tatyana had us wash the paint flecks off our arms and face with kerosene.  So it was a very chemical-filled day.  She's so cool, and her neighbor, Svetlana, came over while we were painting and started saying all these thinsg about Mormons, and what she learned about Mormons on TV the night before...etc....and Tatyana is such a rock star she was just like, "You seriously believe what you see on TV? Why wouldn't you just ask me or these missionaries?" And stuff like that.  Anyways, so Svetlana was super negative about Mormons and stuff but after she talked to us for maybe 10 minutes or so she decided we were alright, and even gave us and the elders a ride back into the city in her zhigule lada!  Haha and when we got there she made us wait until her daughter came out to meet us because her daughter didn't believe that Svetlana had 4 real Americans with her.
Shoot I am totally out of time basically!!! Sorry for the crazy short letter, next week will be fullllll of two weeks worth of great stuff.  Biggest news this week is that Yulia chose a baptismal date! Woohoo!

Oh! We had a really great lesson from a girl named Katya yesterday on a talk from last General Conference--the quote today is from that!
"Where e're thou art, act well thy part"
During our lives we have so many different roles, and the most important thing is just to do your best at being whoever you need to be at that time!
Keep smiling, and everyone eat a little peanut butter or some cinnamon life cereal for me or something! We basically live off corn flakes and cucumber sandwiches because it gets so dang hot!
Love love love and even some extra love,
Sister McGhie
